Dr. Cumhur Bekar, a member of our department, was awarded the David Walker Memorial Visiting Fellowship in Early Modern History granted by the Bodleian Library at Oxford University. As part of this fellowship, Dr. Bekar will conduct research on the manuscript MS. Rawl. Or. 33 at the Bodleian Library.
This manuscript contains letters exchanged between Sir William Trumbull, the British ambassador to Istanbul, and high-ranking Ottoman officials between 1687 and 1691, and provides important data on Ottoman politics and Ottoman-British diplomatic relations during the Early Modern Period. These studies will be part of Dr. Bekar's broader research project investigating political transformations in the Ottoman Empire following the 1687 uprising.
