The Field of History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization conducts studies that focus on the institutions that constitutes the perpetuity of the history of modern social institutions and critically and innovatively address the history of the different segments of society that emerged with the study of primary sources and official narratives. The courses and studies offered by our Field deal with modern, social, and local histories. Critical approach and competent use of primary sources are among the aims of the Field.

  Below is the primary studies and research by our Field:

  • The study of sources that shed light on the historical development of Ottoman institutions
  • The Ottoman institutions and civilization through the perspectives of world history and historiography
  • Archival studies on official and different Ottoman cultural geographies and social segments.

 

The Field of History of Ottoman Institutions and Civilization has an international education and research agenda that involves the primary-source critique of Ottoman institutions and civilization through a second foreign language besides English.
