The Field of Contemporary History examines the Ottoman State, and the social and cultural basins it interacts with through the global and local histories in the modern era. Our Field offers courses and conducts studies that critically and innovatively address the history of different segments of society through official and primary archival studies. Its research agenda consists of competent use of primary sources with a critical approach. The primary sources of Contemporary History are further supported by learning a second foreign language in addition to English.

Below is the primary studies and research by our Field:

  • Written sources of Ottoman and modern social histories
  • Ottoman history through perspectives of world history and historiography
  • Archival studies that aim to examine the different sides of Ottoman and modern eras.

The Field of Contemporary History has an international scientific agenda that examines the Ottoman history with innovative and competent studies of primary sources.
