History of Modern Turkey

Focusing on the twentieth-century Turkish and world history, this section aims to provide ASBU students with a comprehensive and analytical understanding of modern Turkish history that not only treats the latter within its own historical context, but also contextualizes it within the larger frameworks of contemporary Middle Eastern, European and global history.

The members of the section concentrate on the political, economic, socio-cultural and intellectual histories of the late Ottoman and republican periods with a holistic and interdisciplinary approach and seek to instill these perspectives in ASBU students as well. Closely following the most recent trends and discussions in modern historiography, the members of the section also aim to give the students of the history department a critical perspective and expertise on the production of historical knowledge.
